Keyword Stuffing Recipe
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving this year. I know we all have a lot to be thankful for around the Shade Tree. We are grateful for our Family, Friends, and all of the blessings we’ve received this year! Niceties out of the way I wanted to leave you all with something to think about over the break. I know it’s hard to think when Turkey is involved…I plan on getting good and stuffed, so much so that I have to undo my pants as I half sleep / half watch the Cowboys & 49er’s games, comfortably nestled in my over sized lazyboy.
I know my diet is screwed over the holiday season, that’s what New Years Resolutions are for right? But thinking back and reflecting on things I’m grateful for, I remember when I launched my first site. It was a Timeshare resale company. I had a pretty cool copy of Microsoft FrontPage 1.1 and had slapped up some slick graphics, great content, even my first (and only) ebook. Only I couldn’t get anyone to come to the site. Once I’d discovered the AwStats (Analytics) in the backend of my server I was engrossed with traffic. If you build it they will come. #BS! That’s when I first discovered SEO, and here 12 yrs later, I’m grateful that my life has gone down this path.
Now to the meat. The reason I’m bringing up FrontPage (I know geeks everywhere are squirming in their chairs – just reading FrontPage) is because it ‘used to be’ the thing to use / do. As time goes on, we progress. I admit my first site was Keyword stuffed so much so that I was ranking for all kinds of weird things (keep in mind this is B.G. ‘before google’). It was great! I mean who doesn’t love seeing their site in the #1 spot on dogpile, ask Jeeves, MSN, and Yahoo! I know I did and it was as simple as just adding more keywords to the <META NAME=”KEYWORDS” CONTENT=”terms you’re trying to rank for, go in here, “> (some people even put terms that we knew most of the internet was searching for way back when, ‘s e x’ brought in a TON of traffic!) I know it breaks about a dozen rules; like imagine how the user felt showing up on a timeshare site, or what’s a bounce rate? I digress…
Our sites have matured, and it’s really out of sheer exasperation that I write this post. I realize that not everyone keeps up on the day-to-day SEO scene like an SEO would, but come on! This last week alone I’ve come across 8 sites in need of some serious keyword dieting! I’ll go ahead and simple say this.
In Case you missed it THE KEYWORD TAG IS DEAD! STOP USING IT! IT’S NOW USED TO DETERMINE IF YOUR SITE IS SPAM OR NOT! #thankyou. Now I don’t care if you have 2 or 3 keywords in a tag, but seriously stop using it. Keyword stuffing = Bad. Thanksgiving Stuffing = Good. Now for dessert head over and read The Meta Keywords Tag lives at Bing & Why Only Spammers Should Use It. I know I promised a recipe… so here’s two.
1.) Keyword Stuffing = Recipe for disastrous results.
2.) Barefoot Contessa’s Thanksgiving Stuffing Recipe = nom nom nom!
Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your keyword Stuffing!
